H.E.A.R.T.
(Healing Emotions with Art & Recreation Together)
Through CAH’s HEART Program, sexually abused children and adolescents, ages 9-18, benefit from the safe environment of a small group setting. Year-round, gender-specific, seven-week sessions allow children to engage in a variety of activities that help them:
• Learn how to identify their feelings.
• Understand that they are not alone in their struggles.
• Develop skills to support one another.
• Regain self-esteem.
• Build self-confidence.
Activities, led by trained CAH staff and volunteers, include unique, therapeutic approaches to art; expressive movement; yoga; music; horseback riding; outdoor activities; Hawaiian cultural activities; community service; and team-building. CAH also conducts special summer and intersession programs, as well as a supervised afterschool drop-in center once a week for CAH children to do their homework or participate in special activities.
