History
1987

The Rotary Club of Honolulu founded the Friends of the Children’s Advocacy Center of O‘ahu (FCACO) as a nonprofit partner to assist the Hawai‘i State Judiciary and their Children’s Advocacy Center in supporting the needs of abused children. FCACO secured a site in Nu‘uanu where children undergoing the criminal investigation process could be interviewed in a safe, neutral and child-friendly environment, and raised funds to renovate the new offices. In addition, FCACO provided financial and in-kind resources to secure needed items for the children, including emergency Foster Care Bags with clothing, personal hygiene products and other essential items. FCACO also helped to secure tutoring services and fulfill other needs for the children to help them in their healing process.

1996

FCACO changed its name to the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Oahu (FCJCO).

2003

FCJCO’s Board of Directors broadened its mission to include the provision of “care and support for sexually abused children, offering hope for the future,” and changed its name to The Children’s Alliance of Hawai‘i (CAH). CAH added therapeutic services and programs while continuing to provide the State Judiciary Children’s Justice Center with fiscal sponsorship of federal grant funds for professional multi-disciplinary training, supplies and equipment. CAH also provided the Children’s Justice Center with financial, in-kind and volunteer resources for foster care bags, services and items needed by the children.

2010

The Children’s Justice Center ended its formal partnership with CAH.

Today, both agencies continue to work collaboratively to support sexually abused children and youth. CAH continues to provide financial and in-kind resources along with essential, ongoing, supportive programs to help sexually abused children and their families heal from their trauma and find hope for the future.
